DESCRIPTION - LIAM AIRBAG VEST
The first thing paramedics do at a crash scene is stabilize the neck after the impact has already happened. The Liam Airbag Vest is designed to support your neck area at the moment of an impact by building a firm collar around the base of the helmet and upper spine when it inflates. The goal is to help limit violent whiplash-style movement so the hit is taken with a more supported neck rather than a completely loose one.
Most crash energy in a typical motorcycle incident goes through the torso – ribs, spine, collarbone and the organs behind them. Liam surrounds your chest, back and shoulders with an inflatable upper-body airbag that goes from “invisible” to “firm” in a fraction of a second, while also helping to stabilize the neck area.
Liam is a mechanically triggered, reusable airbag vest built in AA-rated denim and designed to be worn over your existing jacket. Wear it over a motorcycle jacket, clip the tether to your bike and you are riding with an air-filled safety system that adds impact performance for your spine, chest, ribs, collarbone and upper neck zone, with approximately 17 litres of air volume when fully inflated (size-dependent).
Size S uses a 60cc CO₂ cartridge, while sizes M–XL use a 100cc CO₂ cartridge to match gas volume and pressure to each size.
This is upper-body protection for Mo’cycle Riders, Impact Sliders and the wider Airbag Generation – riders who want more than a standard back pad when something goes wrong, and who actually want to come back home after a ride.
HOW IT WORKS
- Put on Liam over your motorcycle jacket. You can still reach most jacket pockets without taking the vest off.
- Clip the tether lanyard to your bike’s anchor point.
- If you are thrown from the bike and exceed the tether’s set length, the system is designed to pull the mechanical trigger.
- The CO₂ cartridge releases gas into the vest in a blink, building internal pressure around your torso and helping to brace your neck and helmet.
There are no apps, no charging cycles and no electronics – just a straightforward mechanical “dead man’s switch” concept that is either clipped in or it is not. For riders who hate charging yet another device, this simplicity is part of the safety: armed or not, you can feel it and see it.
FIT
• The Vest size can be adjusted 10 cm bigger with its three Velcro straps on the inside, in other words, you can make it 4 sizes bigger just by adjusting the straps.
• Access your jacket pockets even when you wear the vest on top of a jacket, a huge benefit once you are out riding and need to access your pockets.
• Cut to sit comfortably over regular riding clothing and typical motorcycle jackets.
• AA-denim chassis with enough structure to keep the airbag channels in the right place, while remaining flexible off the bike.
• Integrated air channels and pattern lines are designed to guide the inflated air where it is needed most: around your spine, ribs, chest, shoulders and neck area.
You can combine Liam with any Mo’cycle® Airbag Jeans or Adventure Pants to create a more complete airbag-based outfit: lower body supported by the pants airbag (when equipped), upper body and neck area supported by Liam, all working together with traditional impact protectors. It’s a layered system for riders who want more than “just a jacket and a helmet”.
CARTRIDGE SIZES & RELOAD
• Size S: 60cc CO₂ cartridge.
• Sizes M–XL: 100cc CO₂ cartridge.
After a deployment:
- Inspect the vest shell, seams, airbag and trigger housing for visible damage.
- Reset the mechanical trigger according to the user instructions.
- Install a fresh cartridge of the correct size (60cc or 100cc).
The vest is reusable by design, but only when correctly inspected, reset and equipped with a new cartridge after each deployment. No airbag garment can remove all risk, and correct maintenance is an important part of overall safety performance – especially for riders who depend on their gear day after day.
7 REASONS YOU GIFT LIAM TO THE RIDER YOU NEVER WANT TO LOSE
- Upper-body backup when it matters most – Liam adds an airbag safety system around spine, chest, ribs, collarbone and upper neck zone when armed and deployed. You’re not just giving them “another vest”; you’re adding a whole extra layer between their torso and the impact.
- Neck support when seconds decide outcomes – The collar and shoulder sections are designed to build a firm structure around the base of the helmet when inflated, aiming to help limit violent whiplash-style movement. For someone you love, that focus on the neck and upper spine is not theoretical – it’s about giving them a better chance in many common crash scenarios.
- Mechanical peace of mind, no batteries to forget – The trigger is purely mechanical: clip in and it’s armed, unclip and it’s not. There’s nothing to charge, pair or update. For the rider in your life who rides often – and sometimes spontaneously – that simplicity means fewer chances to go out without protection.
- AA-rated outer shell that can slide as well as absorb – Liam’s AA-rated denim chassis adds abrasion resistance on top of the airbag and back protector. In a slide, there is more than just a fabric vest between them and the asphalt; there’s a certified outer layer designed for motorcycle use.
- Back protector included from day one – A KNOX Micro-Lock Level 2 back protector comes in the box, adding certified impact performance to the system. Out of the box, they have airbag + back pad working together instead of having to assemble a puzzle of separate parts.
- Plays nicely with the gear they already own – Because Liam is a vest worn over a jacket, they don’t have to change their whole wardrobe. Leather, textile, urban or touring – clip Liam over the top and their existing jacket gains an airbag layer. The easier it is to use daily, the more often it will actually be worn.
- A clear, practical way to say “I want you to come back” – Liam is focused on reducing injury risk in many common crash scenarios by combining air volume, back protector and AA denim, while recognizing that no equipment can guarantee injury-free outcomes. Gifting this vest is a direct way of turning that worry you carry into hardware that rides with them every day.
PROTECTION – NECK, SPINE & TORSO WORKING TOGETHER
The Liam Airbag Vest is an upper-body airbag and back-protector system designed to improve impact safety and abrasion performance around the torso and neck area.
• Upper-body airbag system – Approx. 17 L air volume when deployed (size-dependent), wrapping the back, chest, ribs, shoulders, collarbone and upper neck zone.
• Neck and helmet support concept – When inflated, the high collar and shoulder sections are designed to help brace the helmet and upper spine, aiming to reduce extreme head movement and to let you experience the impact with a better supported neck compared to riding without this type of system.
• Mechanical tether trigger – No batteries, no charging; the system is armed when you clip in and is designed to activate if the tether is pulled beyond a set force and length.
• AA-rated denim outer shell – Provides abrasion resistance as defined by its AA rating in EN 17092 testing, adding slide performance to the impact system.
• KNOX Micro-Lock Level 2 back protector included – CE EN 1621-2:2014, Part 115/114 (size-dependent), adding a certified impact pad to the system.
In the vest, the back pad sits closest to the outside world, with the airbag positioned closer to the rider:
Environment → Vest back pad → Airbag → (optional) Jacket back pad → Rider’s back
This layout means many hard impacts first reach the back pad, which helps spread the load and drive it into the airbag, where the bladder and inner structure further manage the impact energy. If you also use a jacket with its own back pad, you get a “sandwich” effect: two back pads with an airbag between them, plus two layers of AA-rated denim (vest + jacket), creating a high level of upper-body safety performance for many real-world scenarios.
If that feels like too much layering for a given ride, you can keep the back pad in the vest and run your jacket without one. In that case you still have a hard outer layer feeding energy into the airbag rather than directly into your spine.
It is important to note that, even with these design choices, no airbag vest or motorcycle garment can prevent all injuries or guarantee specific outcomes in a crash. Liam is intended to be one element in a broader safety strategy that includes riding technique, speed management, visibility and certified helmet and protective equipment.
